2016 Music Scholarships Awarded
The Fort Walton Beach Community Chorus is pleased to announce the recipients of the FWBCC Memorial Scholarships for 2016. Congratulations to Cari Sands (Niceville High School) and Brittany Parry (Homeschooler and dual enrolled at NWFSC) on being awarded the FWBCC Music Scholarships ($1000.00 each). They will be performing at our Saturday night show, “Salute to Broadway”, on May 14th at 7:00 pm. Cari plays clarinet and Brittany plays piano. Two very gifted musicians!
Cari is a graduating senior from Niceville High School. She plays the clarinet in the band and has been a member of Wind Ensemble all four years of high school, including serving as Principal Clarinet in her junior and senior year. She plays in the Top Jazz Band and has been Band Leader for her senior year. She also has played Alto Sax. 4-time Florida All State Band member, recipient of LSU’s Dr. Eugene Gonzalez Outstanding Musician Award, 4-time member of Okaloosa High School All-county band, Florida Scholar Award 2012-2015 and AP scholar with Honor 2014-15. Besides her involvement with music she has been involved in the NHS Psychology Club and Forensics. She plans on getting her undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance and a Minor in Print Journalism. She has been accepted and has committed to attending Louisiana State University. Cari’s ultimate goal is to get a doctorate in music and play professionally or teach at the college level.
Brittany has been homeschooled 9-12th grade and has been dual enrolled at NWFSC her junior and senior years. She is a gifted pianist and plans on pursuing a Master’s degree in Piano Performance as well as a Doctorate in piano performance. She has performed with the NWFSC Madrigals, Belle Voci and helps with piano accompaniment with both groups. She was a finalist in the Northwest Florida Symphony Concerto Competition and has been awarded the Julia Sublette Music Scholarship at NWFSC. She is pianist at her church and fill-in pianist at a church in Pensacola. Brittany has been a Kid camp assistant for Homeschool Group and a Speech Coach for Rutherford Coaching. She has been accepted at Cedarville University, Troy University, Southern Mississippi, Mississippi College, Bryan College and Covenant College. After finishing her education Brittany wants to teach piano at the college level.
